History of Health and Wellness Program
The GMCL/CAW Health and Wellness Program was launched in 2004 in partnership with General Motors of Canada Limited (GMCL), the Canadian Auto Workers Union (CAW) and Durham Region Health Department. The program's name "Motoring to Wellness" was introduced the spring of 2007. The program is guided by a Steering Committee, with representation from GMCL, CAW and the Durham Region Health Department, who meet regularly to guide the development and promotion of health and wellness programs and initiatives. Each of the 4 GMCL sites ( Oshawa , St. Catharines , Windsor and Woodstock ) in Ontario have a Local Motoring To Wellness committees with representation from both hourly and salaried employees.
Health promotion initiatives and campaigns are developed by Durham Region Health Department under the guidance of the Steering Committee. Topics are based on Local Motoring to Wellness committee members' input, results of the 2006 Employee Needs Assessment Survey and analysis of aggregate health care claim data. The Local Committees distribute campaign materials and resources to employees, therein playing an important role in the Motoring To Wellness program. They also plan local health and wellness activities and are encouraged to collaborate with their local Health Department/Unit.
For 2009 -2011 The Motoring To Wellness program has been awarded funding from Shoppers Drug Mart to implement additional program activities that will be offered by Buffett and Company |
